Approximately 500 g / L | Iodine Number (min) 1,100 mg/g | High-efficiency (less treats more)

Aids in reduction and control of latent organic material | Improves water clarity and light penetration

Increases average ORP value | Removes chloramines and chlorine | Low moisture, ash, and dust

May be used to remove chelated minor and/or trace cations in the event of excess concentration

High-efficiency due to extremely high internal surface area : volume ratio | Low phosphate

As with all Captiv8 Aquaculture solid phase products, this material is sold dry and by unit mass, not volume (volume is density-dependent, and is unsuitable as a means of measuring material which does not expand regardless of moisture content).

While Extric8 C is low in dust and exhibits high durability, the possibility that dust will be generated during transit exists.  It is advisable to rinse this media in non-chlorinated water prior to use, for the purpose of removing dust which may have settled during transit; this step may be skipped if desired.

For reduction and control of latent dissolved organic matter resulting in decreased light transmission, and/or odor control:  Begin with 1 g of Extric8 C per 5 gallons net system volume.  Recommended is to place media in a flow-through vessel, such as a media canister, with a flow rate of 10% net system volume per hour; a sediment pre-filter is strongly suggested in order to minimize accumulation of latent particulate organic material within vessel, which would otherwise degrade the ability of the media to remove dissolved organic material and other entrained contaminants.

Using ORP as an indicator of exhaustion:  Because of the positive impact that Extric8 C has on ORP, this metric may be used to provide an indication as to the state of exhaustion of the media.  To do this, record the system’s average ORP value over the 24 hour period prior to placing this media into use.  Monitor the ORP value while the media is in use; the average daily ORP value will generally increase, assuming no change in system husbandry practices, until such time as the media has become exhausted.  At that time, ORP will begin to gradually decrease.  Remove the media, discard, and replace as system conditions dictate.

The greater the flow rate of system water through the media bed, the faster the media will exhaust.  If using the suggested flow rate, then media is likely to be completely exhausted after 5 days of continuous use.

For control of chloramines and/or chlorine:  Place media into an appropriate flow-through media vessel and place into operation.  Periodically test for chloramines and/or chloramine.  The mass of Extric8 C, the concentration(s) of chloramines and/or chlorine present in the source water, and the volume of water which has passed through the material will dictate the rate of media exhaustion.  When chloramines and/or chlorine values no longer meet requirements, then discard exhausted media and replace.

All activated carbon, be it catalytic or otherwise, will passively remove minor and trace elements which are bound with dissolved organic material (whether intentionally chelated or simply bound as a matter of scavenging) from solution.  Extric8 C may be employed as a means of rapid reduction of organically-bound cations.  In this case, it is advisable to have an ICP analysis performed by a trusted provider after use of the media, re-establishing appropriate concentrations of critical minor and trace cations as dictated by cohort requirements.
